Product details
The Explosion Proof Extension Cord (Class I, Div 1) provides temporary power in areas with flammable gases, vapors or dust (Class I Div 1 or Class II). Factory-sealed explosion-proof plug and receptacle connectors are designed to contain and extinguish sparks within the connection.
This cord connects lighting, pumps and tools in confined hazardous zones used by oil & gas, petrochemical and mining operations. Durable construction and certified safety ratings support temporary industrial power connections.
This extension cord features a rugged 12/3 or 10/3 SOOW flexible cable with a temperature-resistant jacket that can withstand extreme conditions, from -40°F in frigid outdoor rigs to 105°C (221°F) in high-temperature processing plants. The connectors, made from copper-free aluminum or brass, have a threaded design that ensures a flameproof seal when screwed together, preventing internal arcing or heat from igniting the surrounding atmosphere. A locking screw ring secures the connection, adding extra stability in vibration-prone environments.
Explosion-proof extension cords are a game-changer for refineries, grain processing plants, and other hazardous locations. They allow workers to safely operate portable lights, ventilation fans, and sensors inside tanks and reactors, all while adhering to OSHA and NEC regulations that require explosion-proof or low voltage equipment. The cord’s black oil-resistant jacket and heavy-duty strain reliefs add to its durability and long-lasting performance in industrial settings.
Each cord undergoes testing and typically carries UL Standard 1203 or CSA C22.2 certification for hazardous locations. The Class I Div 1 assembly provides temporary power for maintenance and operations work in explosive environments.
